  • "The Quarterback Club wants to thank all the generous parents who supported our 50/50 sales and who purchased Shore Football clothing at the home games over the 2009 season. Thank you also for your donations of Gatorade and water which lasted throughout the season. In addition, thanks for the desserts provided to the pre-season team barbeque. Finally, thanks for supporting the Kick-Off cocktail party and gift auction.

The Quarterback Club would also like to thank all the parents who volunteered to sell 50/50 tickets and work the clothing tent at our home games this year. Special thanks to all the parents who sponsored a pasta dinner this past season as well.

The team appreciates everything we do for them, and it all helps.

See you at the Awards Banquet on December 13th! "

  • A new power point system for football that places more emphasis on the quality of the opposition rather than its size was approved by the NJSIAA. The new system will go into effect in the fall.

Power points, which are used to seed teams for the state playoffs, will be awarded for victories, with extra points given for victories over schools with larger enrollments, as always. But now, residual points will be granted whether a team wins or loses, with more residual points accumulating based on the quality of the opposition.

Under the new system, teams will earn six points for a victory and three for a tie through the first eight games. Extra points are added depending on the size of the opponent from four points for a victory over a Group 4 school to one point over a Group 1 school.

Residual points can be achieved in three ways. In victory, a school will receive three points for each victory an opponent has earned and 1.5 points for each tie by an opponent. In a tie, each team will receive 1.5 points from each victory by an opponent and .75 points for each of the opponent's ties.

Even in losing, teams accrue residual points, gaining one point for each victory by the team it has lost to.

  • The Shore Conference & the Greater Middlesex Conference have agreed to play some cross-over games in 2009. This will result in a change in Shore's schedule next year. Of Shore's 3 non-division games against St John Vianney, Manchester, & Monsignor Donovan two will be replaced by games vs Metuchen & South River. • There is an excellent new website now covering Shore Conference sports. With the demise of the Digital Sports website some of the former writers started their own business covering Shore Conference sports such as Football, Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling, and few others. Among them is former longtime Asbury Park Press High Sports Reporter Scott Stump. The website is a mixture of free & paid content. For example, there are some GREAT video highlights from the past few games up on their site. Content such as the videos fall in the paid category. (Those guys have to make a living too) They are offering an introductory rate of $60 for a year. The other option would to to choose a monthly plan where you get charged $10 per month. Payments are processed thru PayPal, so it's nice & easy.
